Why Cougars for the Cause?
Our goal is to create an annual event for the Kelly Shires Foundation to provide assistance to even more individuals battling this disease. The Breast Cancer Snow Run is the main event that has raised over $2 Million dollars in its first 12 years. In continuing the spirit of 'women helping women', we have decided to organize a 'girls night out' to further help the cause.
Organzing this event has been a dream for four years and we can't be happier to finally be bringing this dream alive.
What is the Kelly Shires Foundation?
Battling for your life is a very tough challenge – there are physical, emotional, mental and financial battles to overcome. The Kelly Shires Foundation helps women (and men) diagnosed with breast cancer purchase items that health insurance plans do not cover. The Foundation also helps raise awareness. The Kelly Shires Foundation does not fund research – all funds go to financially assist breast cancer patients.
The main fundraising event for this worthwhile cause is the Breast Cancer Snow Run, which takes place the first Saturday in February. This event provides the majority of funds for recipients.
How are funds disbursed?
Applications can be made on-line at WWW.KELLYSHIRESFOUNDATION.ORG or by calling 1-877-436-6467. The requests are put before a council and approved, if applicable. The Foundation’s main goal is to help breast cancer patients financially; however, if funds permit at year end it is possible that some funds can be donated to cancer centres in hospitals. Funds raised are put in a trust and breast cancer patients make formal applications to the charity.
